1 PayYou are living below the poverty line and fall deeper into credit card debt each month. You have to pay out of pocket for your dental and medical coverage at work. No retirement account through work. You work an extra job to pay for the necessities. You have dental and medical insurance at your current job, but they do not provide a retirement account for you. You can pay for the necessities but cannot save each month. You do have a retirement account plus dental and medical insurance at your current job. You earn more than you spend, allowing you to pay for the necessities AND save money into multiple accounts. You also have full dental, medical, and retirement benefits at your current job.
2 Personal LifeYou are required to "guard your desk" and are at work from 5am-7pm Mon-Fri. You also come in on weekends during "voluntary" hypertrophy or mobility lifts for the team. Your family knows who you are because of pictures they see of you at the house. You are required to "guard your desk" and are at work from 5am-7pm Mon-Fri. You also come in on weekends during "voluntary" hypertrophy or mobility lifts for the team. Your family does come to the facility to see you occasionally. You have groups early in the morning and late at night meaning you have to be in the facility at 5am and often leave at 6pm. But during the day you can come and go as you please as long as you get your job done. Your family is able to come to the facility and spend time there. You have all your groups in the morning, or all at night. Plus you have the freedom to come and go at work as you please. This means you still have a job to do and work that needs to be done - but you have the ability to do some programming or reading outside when the weather is nice. Your family is able to come to the facility and are part of your life at work.
3 Progression of CareerThere is no upward mobility, you have hit your glass ceiling and there is no way for you to progress your career with respect to more pay or better title. Chances are slim that you can change your title and get more pay. There is a way, but very unlikely you will be able to move up unless other people pass on the job. You have good chances for upward mobility where you are working. Some of the admin/front office know who you are and you know them as well. You have upward mobility where you are working even if you currently are the head S&C of the department. Sure it would require a full career change, but if you wanted you could move into an Admin or teaching role. This way when you don't want to work in the weight room any longer, your family can still live where you currently do.
4 PurposeYou do not feel like you are part of something bigger than yourself. The athletes, sport coach, and other support staff on the team just see you as the "weights coach". You love working with the athletes and have a connection helping them - but the sport coach connection is not there. The rest of the S&C staff looks to you to help mentor them because of how well you connect with your team of athletes and sport coaches. No one outside your department knows you as a leader, but in your weight room you are important. You are a vital part of the success on the team. You get to be involved in the planning of things outside of the weight room. Key stake holders outside of S&C ask your opinion about large projects at the organization - oftentimes you are the first or second person they ask questions to.
